Seeing beyond color
Opsin is an editorial project conceived around the idea that color is more than a visual phenomenon: it is a cultural construct, an emotional trigger, and a powerful narrative device. Named after the protein responsible for human vision, the magazine investigates the meanings hidden behind individual colors through a collection of seven issues. This final volume is entirely dedicated to purple, exploring its symbolism across history, art, spirituality, science, and contemporary culture. Rather than simply documenting its meanings, the publication translates them into a visual experience where every editorial choice reinforces the narrative.
The design embraces a fully monochromatic purple palette, establishing chromatic consistency across the entire publication while allowing typography, composition, and image treatment to create hierarchy and contrast. Each article is intentionally developed with its own graphic identity, introducing different layouts, pacing, and visual systems that reflect the character of the content without compromising the coherence of the magazine as a whole. The result is an editorial object that balances systematic design with expressive experimentation, transforming reading into an exploration of perception itself.
